What is a Sump Pump?
Many homes in the US currently have a sump pump system and it is a simple but mighty device when it comes to preventing flooding.
A Sump Pump is a device that is installed at the lowest point of your home.
The pump is not active at all times, only when needed. Excess water runs to the lowest point of your house, then the sump pump activates and removes the water up and out.
Is there a difference in pumps? Yes and No
They all have the same function but there are definitely better quality and higher tech ones. We always suggest your sump pump have a battery operated back up so in the case of a power outage your pump will still activate.
There are submersible and pedestal pumps.
Submersible pumps are underwater in your sump pump basement, pedestal pumps are put above
What other benefits do sump pumps have?
- Protect your paint and flooring from peeling
- Reduce mold and mildew growth
- Safeguard any basement appliances
- Keep a finished basement in tact
- Meet requirement for home owners insurance coverage of a flooded basement
Do I need one?
We think it’s an important precaution to avoid flooding, which can be a much more expensive and stressful situation than being preventative.
98% of basements in the U.S will suffer from some type of water damage during their lifetime
If you live in a place where snow or rain occurs, you need it.
If your home is built on an area where you’re flood prone, you need it.
If you’ve ever had water problems in the past or your has flooded before, you need it.
If you have a finished basement, you need it!
(P.S) If you’re looking to buy a new home always take in consideration: any flooding issues, the age of the sump pump, and if the basement is already waterproofed.
Prevent! Prevent! Prevent!
Waterproofing your crawlspace or basement saves thousands of dollars less than recovering from a flood and can add those thousands to the value of your home when it’s time to sell.
